City of Benson

The City of Benson, home of Kartchner Caverns State Park, located in Cochise County, is approximately 45 miles southeast of Tucson. Benson has a population of 5,162 and continues to grow. Benson, the Gateway to San Pedro Valley, is the regional transportation hub of Cochise County, located on Interstate 10 at the intersections of State Route 90 and State Route 80, which serve all of southern Cochise County, including Sierra Vista, Fort Huachuca, Tombstone, Bisbee, and Douglas.

Arizona Electric Power Cooperative, Inc., Apache Nitrogen Products, Benson Schools and the Benson Hospital and Wal-Mart are the area's major employers. Many residents commute to Tucson and Sierra Vista for employment and shopping.

The city supports a large retired population and is a winter refuge for visitors from colder climates. It's the gateway to many historic and scenic sites are popular with tourists.

Benson's economy is considerably affected by military operations in Fort Huachuca, which is a 30-minute drive from Benson.
