Manufacturing

About 7 percent of the people in the Tucson Metropolitan area work in the manufacturing sector. About one in six people in the Tucson Metropolitan area works in “goods-producing'' industries, including manufacturing, mining and construction. Manufacturing is important because the jobs pay higher than average wages and manufacturers provide an export-based product that brings wealth back into the community.

The Sonoran region of Mexico has a high concentration of maquiladoras that provide an attractive customer base for Tucson area companies.
