FAQs for Land Owners

What is TREO's role in the program?

TREO acts as the coordinator for the development and operation of the Shovel Ready and Fast Track Permitting Programs. All applications for Shovel Ready certification should be sent to TREO for review and final approval. The approval process involves reviews/concurrence by the appropriate development permitting jurisdiction, utilities, and TREO. If approved, TREO will then certify the site(s) and add the site(s) and relevant site information to the web-accessible database and interactive regional map of all certified sites.

TREO will also participate in Project Development Teams for each development project involving a targeted industry and a certified Shovel Ready Site. These teams will monitor the permitting process to assure the Fast Track Permitting timelines are achieved.

Does the program apply to all retail and commercial projects? No, the program does not directly address retail projects. The Shovel Ready and Fast Track Permitting Programs are designed to support targeted business attraction and expansions that were identified in TREO's Economic Blueprint. The targeted industries were chosen because of the high quality jobs associated with them and because they are good matches for the region's economy and resources.
