Quick Facts:
In 2006 the Arizona Department of Economic Security reported more than 17,000 new jobs in the Tucson region, the most in one single year of Tucson's history.

DES also reported a 5% job growth rate in 2006, which exceeds the region's 3% population growth rate. This job growth rate is now greater than the Phoenix area and Arizona as a whole.

Employers will find a diverse, educated, and enthusiastic workforce in Tucson. Located in one of America's youngest states, over half of Pima County's population is in the prime working age range of 18 to 54. The civilian labor pool is made up of more than 450,000 people representing several ethnicities.

In late 2006 Pima County reportedly reached a population of one million residents. Reaching this milestone should add considerably to Tucson's workforce. An ongoing increase and concentration in the region's Hispanic/Latino population presents new marketing opportunities in many areas, such as retail, entertainment, and dining sectors.

The availability of fast-track, customized training also has had a significant impact on the region's workforce. Training courses from the information technology, plastics, optics, and electronics industries to ISO certification preparation and soft-skills programs on leadership and team building can be found.

Tucson's highly skilled workforce is a product of targeted education programs at the The
University of Arizona and Pima Community College, as well as many technical and specialized training programs throughout the region. There are also a number of highly organized cooperative efforts to recruit and retain workers for new and expanding businesses.

Primary, secondary, university, vocational, and continuing education institutions in Tucson all contribute to the goal of providing a qualified workforce.
