Dr. Robert N. Shelton is the President of The University of Arizona. His focus is to advance the UA’s standing as a top public research university. It is of utmost importance to him that UA is accessible to Arizona students.

He was promoted to professor in 1984. He was the chair of the Department of Physics at UC-Davis until he was named vice chancellor for research. He came to the UA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost.

Shelton finished his undergraduate work at Stanford University before earning his doctorate degree in experimental condensed-matter physics at University of California in San Diego.

He is a member of the Space Telescope Institute Council as well as a member of the Southern Arizona Leadership Council. He holds a seat on the University of Arizona Healthcare Board Of Directors, the Campus Research Corporation and the UA Foundation.
